Can Gyminee Help Me Lose Weight (and keep it off)?

water trackerI hope so. After years of doing the yo yo thing I am finally going to try the only thing that is said to really work long term; portion control. Last week I found Gyminee and this week I started using it to track my weight, eating, water intake, and exercise.

So far I’ve found that initial setup is easy and the interface is simple to navigate.  After setting up my free account I entered my current height, weight, and other stats and established a weight loss goal. I log on every day to enter the foods I eat into my nutritional log. I simply type what I ate into the search field and Gyminee provides several results to choose from. For example; today I had a Wendy’s Chicken BLT salad for lunch.

I really do enjoy eating whatever I want to eat with my attention primarily on the portions (total calories) and not so much the amount of carbs. One of my goals, in addition to staying at or below my daily total calories goal, is to eat an equal amount, by percentage of carbohydrates, protein, and fat. I’m not a weightlifter or an athlete of any kind, so unlike the diets I subjected myself to in years past (with good results), I’m not supplementing with protein powders or meal replacement shakes in an effort to keep my protein intake high.

An example of Gyminee’s Calorie breakdown chart and caloric data. This is my actual record from the date of this post. Too much fat and too few overall calories. It’s great to see this type of thing daily so that I can make minor adjustments as I see the need. Free accounts can be upgraded to a pro account for access to advanced nutrient tracking (fiber etc) and other features like meal planning and removal of ads. Note: The ads are not obnoxious. I’ve yet to see a pop-up, though my browser may be blocking them.

Gyminee allows you to modify your daily goals to establish a reasonable rate of loss per week. In the past I have been very successful at losing a lot of weight fast, so fast that people thought I was ill. That, however, is not only unhealthy, the success (at least for me) has a tendency to reverse itself just as rapidly. My current goal is a modest rate of loss at 1Lb per week. I even joined a group of people with the same initial goal as me; lose 20 pounds. It’s not a race, just a group of people with the same individual goal.

mattb4rdThe weightloss chart is similar to the calorie chart, but since I’ve only just started I don’t have any impressive downward trending line charts to show. Give me a month or two :)   mattb4rd
