This post comes from another book in that volume.

From 7 topics of my choosing, here are a few Proverbs, Epigrams, Aphorism, Sayings and Bon Mots;

Quality
 

  • There was never a good knife made of bad steel.
  • Buying a cheap article to save money is like stopping the clock to save time.

The Obvious
 

  • The obscure we see eventually. The completely apparent takes longer. 

Opportunity
 

  • They wrong opportunity who say she knocks but once.
  • When you are an anvil be patient; when a hammer, strike. 
  • The doors of opportunity are marked “Push” and “Pull”.
  • The trouble with opportunity is that it always comes disguised as hard work.

Gratitude
 

  • Do not cut down the tree that gives you shade.
  • When you drink from the stream remember the spring. 
  • He merits no thanks who does a kindness for his own ends. 
  • Gratitude is the least of virtues; ingratitude the worst of vices

Crime–punishment
 

  • He who profits from a crime, commits it. 
  • He who spares the guilty threatens the innocent. 
  • Stone walls do not make a prison nor iron bars a cage. 

Criticism
 

  • Tall trees catch much wind. 
  • If you stop every time a dog barks, your road will never end. 
  • Most knocking is done by folks who don’t know how to ring the bell. 

Success
 

  • Success has many friends
  • If at first you don’t succeed, try a little ardor
  • When success turns a man’s head, he faces failure. 
  • To know how to wait is the great secret of success.
